Mobile Food Market Celebrates 1 Year!

Mobile Food Market Celebrates 1 Year!

Happy 1st birthday Mobile Food Market! How were we able to make this project possible? It took a village – literally! Reflecting on the past year and how much we’ve grown, we would love to take this opportunity to thank all those people and organizations that contributed to bringing this project to life.

We couldn’t have done it without the financial support of Brock Township, Durham Community Foundation and Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada. Many of our community partners, including Brock Community Health Centre, Brock High School, McCaskill’s Mills Elementary School, and more, helped us to secure this funding with their letters of support – thank you!

A big shout-out to all of our location partners – Durham Region Non-Profit Housing Corporation, Durham Regional Local Housing Corporation, Brock Township, Gamebridge Women’s Institute Hall, Knox & Beacan Presbyterian Churches, ReMax Beaverton, Port Bolster Community Hall, Udora Community Hall, Woodville United Church, and all of the councillors, board members, superintendents, organizers and more, who continue to help us to operate!

Collaborative efforts from the Durham, York, Simcoe and Kawartha Lakes health departments also helped us get our wheels rolling – thank you!

In getting started, we received guidance and advice from the University of Buffalo’s Veggie Van Training Center, as well as FoodShare TO’s Mobile Good Food Market and Halifax Mobile Food Market’s How-To Guide – thank you!

We worked closely with Action Trailers in Strathroy, Ford UxbridgeCrew Chief (retrofitters), Cedar Springs Signs, Wraps & Apparel, and Aircon Services & Reefer Sales Inc. to get our van and trailer looking and working so beautifully – thank you!

Our delicious weekly meals, meal kits, spice blends and salad dressings are all thanks to our amazing kitchen wizards – chef Edna and chef Jo!

And who would we be without our local farmers? Cannington Commons Farms, Wheelbarrow Farm, Hinterland Growers, Hy-Hope Farm, Nature’s Bounty Farm, and Windmill Farms – we a-peach-iate you!

Most importantly, we want to thank ALL of our customers – from those who come occasionally to those who faithfully attend every week – connecting with and bringing good food to you is the best part of what we do!

There are lots of other people, organizations and otherwise that have also helped, so to everyone who has been a part of this amazing project, from all of us on the Mobile Food Market team – Tiffany, Zoe, Jess, Taylor – thanks shallot! We are humbled by the kindness, generosity, and support of this community, and look forward to continuing to serve you. Here’s to many more years to come!
