How it Works

01. Register

Nourish House is open to anyone in need of food support. Please call 705-432-2444 to register as a client.

02. Book Your Appointment

Once you’re registered, you can book an appointment to shop, book a porch pickup, or book an emergency bag.

Click below to see how each food access option works!

Each month, you will be offered a points budget based on your household size.

Bring your own bags with you to your shop and we will give you 3 additional points!

Items within the food bank have a points price marked on the shelves. As you shop, we’ll help keep track of your points budget.

Households are allowed two visits each month. You can split your points however you would like between these two visits.

We offer porch-pick ups as an alternative to shopping for community members who may be sick, are on a tight schedule, or just prefer not to shop.

Households are allowed two visits each month. You can split your points however you would like between these two visits.

Over the phone, one of our team members will review a grocery list with you to ensure we understand your household's needs and preferences. At the date and time set, your order will be ready for pickup at our side door.

If you are in an emergency situation and are unable to wait for the next available shopping appointment or a porch pick-up, we can give you an emergency bag. Emergency bags contain enough food to bridge the gap until the next available appointment, and are not customizable, except for in the case of allergies or other dietary restrictions.

Emergency bags do not count towards your monthly points allotment.

Frequently Asked Questions

Our food bank has sections like a typical grocery store: non-perishables, dairy, freezer, snacks, produce, household items, personal care, and pets.

We do our best to maintain as much selection as possible, but as a non-profit, we unfortunately cannot guarantee availability of any items or brands.

We work hard to ensure we always have the following:

  • *Fresh, local produce
  • Milk and eggs
  • Meat and meat alternatives
  • Frozen prepared meals
  • Bread
  • Non-perishable goods
  • Personal care items
  • Household cleaning supplies
  • *Baby products (diapers, wipes, etc.)
  • *Menstrual and incontinence products
  • *Pet supplies

*These items do not have points allocated and are provided on an unlimited, as needed basis.

On occasion, we may have to limit items to ensure that all community members visiting us have a fair variety of items to choose from.

We understand that in order to meet you and your family’s needs, you may have to use more than one point of food access, therefore you do not need to let us know if you have visited or plan to visit another food bank.

Someone can shop on your behalf, so long as you notify us of this arrangement and confirm that they have your consent.

At this time, Nourish House does not have a delivery service.

If transportation is a barrier to you accessing Nourish House, please give us a call to see if we can support you with finding a solution.

Nourish Hub is a member of Feed the Need in Durham (FTND), a regional food distribution organization.

Our vendor partners include Phoenix Poultry Farm, Cannington Commons Farm, Hy-Hope, Windmill Farms, Herrington’s Quality Butcher, Foodland Cannington, Kawartha Bakery, Kawartha Dairy, among others.

Local groups, individuals, and organizations provide support to our food bank by donating food and funds which goes a long way to keep our shelves stocked. Donor partners include:

  • Durham Regional Police Service
  • The Cannington Lions Club
  • St. Paul’s Leaskdale

Check out our socials for shout outs to our generous donors. If you’re a local organization looking to give back to your community, please feel free to reach out to info@tndf.ca or call 705-432-2422.

At Nourish House we strive to reduce food waste and packaging waste.

We have a laundry and dish soap refill station where clients can bring reusable containers and have them filled from bulk dispensers.

We do not purchase single-use grocery bags, instead we rely on donations of bags from the community. We provide a bring-your-own bag incentive of 3 extra points per appointment.

Any produce that is past peak freshness is turned into delicious meals by the Community Kitchen and comes back to the food bank.

In order to create a profile, we need the name, date of birth, gender, address, dietary restrictions, and contact information for everyone in your household.

If you are unhoused or don’t have contact information, we can still create a profile.

You do not need to provide documentation or identification to register for food bank access at TNDF.

The information gathered is used to strengthen our programs, applying for funding, and advocating for changes to public policy. Any data we pull or share do not have any names or personal identifiers included.
