Door-to-Door Food Drive & Halloween Warming Centre

Sometimes, hunger wears a costume.

It can be disguised as a family trying to stretch groceries until the next paycheque, a senior choosing between food and another essential expense, or someone turning to a food bank for the first time after an unexpected change in circumstances.

And it’s happening right here in our community.

Goal: 1,000 lbs of donations in 1 day

This Halloween, we’re asking Cannington to come together and help us Scare Away Hunger by collecting 1,000 lbs of food in one day for TNDF’s Food Bank. No single food drive can solve hunger, but a community that shows up for its neighbours can make a very real difference.

And we’re making it as easy as possible to participate — we’re coming to you!

Saturday, October 31 • Pickup begins at 10 AM

Before the trick-or-treaters arrive, we’re asking you to leave a treat of a different kind on your doorstep: a bag of food for a neighbour who needs it.

Participating is easy! Simply:

Fill It

Fill a bag with non-perishable food donations

Mark It

Clearly mark the outside of the bag “FOOD BANK”

Leave It

Leave it somewhere visible and easy for our volunteers to access by 10:00 a.m.

We’ll take it from there!

Teams of TNDF volunteers will make their way along predetermined routes throughout Cannington, collecting donations and bringing them back to our Food Bank.

You don’t need to wait for us or answer your door — just have your donation ready and we’ll do the rest.

Our volunteer teams will be covering the mapped area of Cannington.

Have a Cannington address but aren’t on our route? We can still come to you!

Call us at 705-432-2444, email us, or message us on Facebook during the week leading up to Halloween. Tell us where you’ll be leaving your donation and we’ll add you to our special pickup list.

That’s okay! There are lots of ways to be part of a community that cares for its neighbours.

If you’d still like to Scare Away Hunger, you can make a financial contribution to TNDF’s Food Bank instead. Financial donations help us purchase the food and essentials we need most and fill gaps when donated items run low.

Once the food drive is finished, Halloween isn’t over at TNDF!

After spending the day out in the community, we’re inviting the community to join us in the evening for our annual Halloween Warming Centre!

From 5 PM–8 PM, we’re giving trick-or-treaters, families and neighbours a warm place to take a break and spend some time together.

Come in to warm up with chilli and cornbread, enjoy a cupcake and a hot drink, use the washroom, watch a spooky movie, visit with neighbours, and take part in activities for the kids.

Food and drinks will be available by donation, but there is no cost to attend.
