Food Literacy Programs

Food skills for life, rooted in curiosity and connection.

Growing skills, confidence, and curiosity — from garden beds to kitchen tables.

Our Food Literacy Programs inspire children and community members to grow skills, confidence, and curiosity. Through a blend of hands‑on cooking, garden learning, and food exploration, participants discover where food comes from, how it grows, and how to prepare it in meaningful, accessible ways.

Our programming includes camps, after‑school programs, workshops, and special events that weave together kitchen skills, outdoor exploration, creativity, and teamwork. Whether harvesting from The Nourish Patch Learning Garden, trying a new recipe, planting seeds, or creating food‑focused projects, every experience is designed to spark joy, build confidence, and foster a deeper connection to food and community.

Flexible, welcoming, and grounded in community, TNDF’s Food Literacy Programs help children and groups of all ages explore fresh flavours, develop practical life skills, and cultivate a lifelong positive relationship with food.

Upcoming Events

The Nourish Patch Learning Garden is the heart of TNDF’s food literacy programs. This vibrant outdoor learning space gives kids the chance to explore where food comes from, connect with nature, and build hands‑on skills that carry into our kitchen and classroom activities. From seed to harvest, the garden offers endless opportunities for curiosity, discovery, and learning.

The Nourish Patch plays a central role in PA Day Camps, March Break Camps, Summer Camps, and After‑School Programs, providing a living classroom that enriches every experience:

PA Day Camps use the garden for fun activities like scavenger hunts, plant detective challenges, and harvesting ingredients for same‑day recipes.

March Break Camps explore early‑season planting, garden planning, and nature‑based games that help kids shake off winter and welcome spring.

Summer Camps bring the garden to life through planting, watering, harvesting, pollinator exploration, and outdoor learning woven into cooking sessions.

After‑School Programs use the garden for ongoing skill‑building—tending beds, observing plant growth, caring for soil, and gathering ingredients for recipes.

Across all programs, the Nourish Patch helps children develop confidence, teamwork, and a deeper understanding of food, nature, and community. It is a space where kids can get their hands in the soil, taste what they’ve grown, and discover the joy of nurturing something from garden bed to kitchen table.

PA Day Camps offer fun, single‑day experiences where kids explore food, nature, and creativity through hands‑on activities. Every camp is different, featuring its own recipes, garden discoveries, and seasonal themes, but all PA Days share the same foundation of cooking confidence, outdoor learning, and joyful food exploration.

Campers might harvest ingredients from The Nourish Patch, cook a new recipe, explore nature through games and scavenger hunts, or take part in creative food‑themed crafts. No matter the theme, each PA Day invites kids to learn new skills, try fresh foods, and connect with friends in a welcoming, engaging environment.

Each camp brings something new and every PA Day is delicious, exciting, and designed to help kids grow with confidence.

Our Summer Food Literacy Camps invite kids to grow skills, confidence, and curiosity — from garden beds to kitchen tables. Each week blends outdoor adventures in our learning garden with hands‑on cooking experiences in the kitchen. Campers plant, harvest, taste, and create delicious recipes while exploring where food comes from and how it nourishes our bodies and communities.

With guidance from our experienced facilitators, children learn practical kitchen skills, build independence, and work together as they chop, stir, mix, and explore new flavours. Outdoor time includes caring for plants, discovering pollinators, and connecting with nature through games and garden activities. Inside, campers transform fresh ingredients into meals and snacks they’re proud to share.

Our camps are designed to be joyful, welcoming, and confidence‑boosting, helping children develop a lifelong positive relationship with food.

TNDF’s March Break Camps offer a full week of engaging, hands‑on food literacy activities designed to inspire curiosity, confidence, and creativity. Campers explore cooking, gardening, and food‑focused learning through fun, interactive experiences that encourage teamwork and discovery.

Each day brings a mix of kitchen time, outdoor exploration, games, and creative projects, giving kids plenty of opportunities to try new things, build practical skills, and connect with food and community. Our welcoming environment supports all learners as they cook, taste, create, and enjoy a week of meaningful, memorable fun.

Our Garden to Table After School Program is getting ready for its next season! We’re busy planning fresh activities, new recipes, and hands‑on garden learning that help kids build confidence and curiosity around food. Registration details will be posted soon — check back for updates!
