Who We Are
The Nourish and Develop Foundation is a nonprofit charitable foundation, located in Cannington, Ontario. Established in 2000 by the Slabodkin Family Trust, most of the Foundation’s work during the first decade was held in the City of Toronto, supporting children’s charities and other poverty alleviation programs. In 2010, we moved our offices to Brock Township. Over the past few years, the Foundation has hired staff, recruited volunteers, and expanded its food security and educational programs. Today, the Nourish and Develop Foundation serves more than 300 families and individuals, who visit the Brock Food Pantry an average of 100 visits per month, distributing over $101,000 annually in food supplies.
The Food Pantry is only a fraction of the work that Nourish and Develop does in the community. Guided by the two strategic goals: Community Food Security and Education for Self-Reliance, the Foundation has expanded its programs immensely (see Our Programs page). This allows us to fulfil our motto of: “Nourishing Lives…Developing Change.” The idea behind our approach is to involve the affected in the solution, where participation is vital; aiming to transform the relationship with our clients and community partners.
Nourish and Develop has recently embarked in developing a Community Food Hub, which will bring our programs to another level. This new space in Cannington (see Community Food Hub page) will include a state-of-the-art community kitchen, cold room food storage, training rooms, and a hall to sit over sixty attendees. We also envision integrating our local community garden program and a farmer’s market within the many activities of the Community Food Hub.
